Have a Cigar
Behind the Photograph
Some photographs need a long story.
This isn't one of them.
I was sitting in the same courtyard where I photographed Cowboy,
enjoying a cup of coffee and watching the world wander by.
A gentleman stepped out of a nearby cigar shop and tucked a
big cigar into the corner of his mouth.
His cap announced he was in town for Bike Week, and he
looked every bit the part.
In fact, if Hollywood had been casting a biker that
afternoon, I think they would have handed him a script.
I don't remember ever seeing him light the cigar.
Maybe he did.
Maybe he didn't.
It really doesn't matter.
Sometimes a photograph isn't about what someone is doing.
Sometimes it's simply about who they appear to be in one
fleeting moment.
This is one of those photographs.
